FAQ's

1)   Where can I get a Jabber Video and/or a WebEx Account?

Provided you have a valid HUID, you can contact Harvard University Information Technology help desk by phone; 617.495.7777 or email; ithelp@harvard.edu, to acquire the access /software needed.

2)   Who do I contact if I forgot my Jabber and/or WebEx username or password?

Please contact Harvard University Information Technology help desk by phone; 617.495.7777 or email; ithelp@harvard.edu.  They will be able to assist you in getting your username and/or password reset.

3)   Is there a fee for Jabber Video and/or WebEx services?

Jabber Video is at no cost to users with a valid HUID through FY15. FY16 and beyond HUIT reserves the right to start a cost recovery model.

WebEx is negotiated at a school or department level. Please speak with your local IT support desk for more information. Information can be found on our Video Conferencing Locations tab.

4)   What is the free Cisco Jabber Video?

This is for external users not on Harvard University’s video network.  It is a cloud based, Cisco TelePresence Jabber Video software that is free, but has a forum based, self-support model and limited in functionality.  The software is available for download from a globally accessible website.  

5)   Where can I go to test my video conferencing systems (Jabber Video, TelePresence and WebEx)?

Please contact Harvard University Information Technology help desk by phone; 617.495.7777 or email; ithelp@harvard.edu.  You will be scheduled to establish a test call with a live person for support.

6)  If I get invited to a WebEx session, is there a way to call in with a SX/MX series room conferencing system?

Only if the WebEx session is already a CMR/Webex enabled TelePresence meeting. We can not make a standard WebEx meeting into a WebEx enabled TelePresence meeting without deleting the non TelePresence meeting.

7)  Is there any way to white list an IP instead of connecting to VPN while trying to access the TMS Smart Scheduler?

No, our TMS server is on an internal only network.

8)  Can I invite users for a WebEx session directly from TMS Smart Scheduler?

No, it will send you an invite that needs to be forwarded. It should be branded Harvard on the invite with a green button to join WebEx from a computer.

9)   I want to setup a new TelePresence room. What services can HUIT provide?

HUIT UC is a valuable resource for your video conferencing, TelePresence, and AV consulting needs. Please email ithelp@harvard.edu and request video services.

10)   How do I schedule a multi-point video conference call?

11)   Does HUIT have any demo/loaner equipment?
